TMSV – Fission Chips [RUA Sound]

Few labels in recent memory have started as strong as RUA Sound. Their first release featured future jungle heavyweights Sully and Sam Binga and unsurprisingly sold out in no time at all (c’mon guys, repress…) so we were more than a little pleased to hear of a follow up from promising upstart TMSV.

Continuing RUA’s quest to unearth the best genre-bending sounds from the bleeding edge of the 170BPM spectrum, we’re treated to two weighty cuts with more than enough muscle for the dancefloor but plenty of playful experimentation to boot. Fission Chips kicks things off with an 8-bit grime hook, rapid footwork-style hats and hypnotic arpeggios set to a hefty slab of sub bass pressure; proper head nodding business.

Over on the flip things take on more of a dub/jungle vibe, with classic reggae sounds mixed with a sparse beat and some super tasty snare rolls. Yes please! Another fine release from a label we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on; check it out below and hit up Redeye or Kudos to grab the wax right now.

Lynch Kingsley & Block Mameli – Swinging Flavors #2 [Beat Machine]

Beat Machine continue their Swinging Flavors 7″ series with a cracking new Jungle/Footwork crossover from Lynch Kingsley & Block Mameli. From the hypnotic eastern-tinged string lick to the strong ragga vocal from Mameli the tune just oozes character, and we’re big fans of the syncopated beat structure that Lynch has been honing across his releases over the last few years.

Over on the flip Hungarian-born but now US-based DJ MADD flips the tune around, keeping the central character but taking the riddim in a different direction with elements of dub, socca and trap working their way into the mix for a slightly more laid back vibe. Another wicked entry in what’s proving to be a really innovative series from Beat Machine; check out the clips below and hit up their store to grab it on vinyl or digital right now!

DNB Dojo Mix Series 26: The Untouchables

MixSeries26_TheUntouchables

The mixes are coming thick and fast this month as we welcome The Untouchables to the DNB Dojo decks! With a superb new EP just out on Translation Recordings and previous releases gracing the likes of Alphacut, Cylon and Samurai, their distinctive dubby sound has been rumbling the bassbins at Dojo HQ for some time now. Serious weight!

As usual you can check out the mix via Soundcloud below or head to Mixcloud, Hearthis.at or iTunes to stream. You can also grab a download from Google Drive.

The Untouchables & Resound – Seperate Reality EP [Translation]

Esteemed US imprint Translation returns with a fantastic new 12″ EP from crafty dubslingers The Untouchables, with a couple of guest appearances from the equally crafty Finish Beatsmith and collaborator extraordinaire Resound.

If threatening, dubbed out minimalism and tribal rhythms are your bag then you might as well just stop reading and buy this right now; the EP delivers in spades on that front, and the halftime fanboys / room 2 train-spotters are doubtless already salivating over this release. Rightly so; the material here carries that blissful combination of hefty bassweight, crisp but spacious beats and terse atmospherics that made the early dubstep sound and the thriving deep halftime scene so satisfying.

This EP isn’t full of surprises by any stretch but the hypnotic echoes and resonating sub pull you in over and over, like a warm blanket of sound encasing you completely. Those that find the halftime rhythm slow / boring aren’t likely to be any more sold based on this outing, but it’s their loss; one for the heads that know! Check out the clips below and hit up the Translation Store to grab this on vinyl or digital right now.
