Dojo Damager: Evol Intent – Scavenger’s Paradize

US party starters Evol Intent have been at the forefront of the hard D&B scene for over a decade with their pioneering mix of gangster rap, glitch and balls to the wall D&B. With the generous trio dropping yet another dangerous freebie it seemed only right to name Scavengers Paradize this week’s Dojo Damager!

Mashing up previous Evol tracks Scavenger and Paradize City, this is an infectious blend of NWA samples, G-Funk synths and a massive, hard hitting D&B backbone. Sprinkle in a few shotgun clicks and you’re good to go! Check it out below and hit up the Evol Intent soundcloud to grab a copy right now.

Evol Intent – Middle of the Night Remixes

Following on from a most successful Middle of the Night remix contest, Evol Intent collect the five winning entries along with a trap remix from Knick’s Bro Safari side project. The full spectrum of genres is covered nicely here, with Bl4ck Owlz turning in a hefty dubstep mix and Jamestown Thieves & Dirty Doses bringing the electro house vibes on their mix.

The highlights here at the Dojo proved (unsurprisingly) to be the higher tempo reworks. Jorts’ purple/future bass rework provides a fantastic reimagining of the original with a very different tone, while Teknian & ZeroZero give the track a crisp new D&B mix that borrows heavily from the Break school of production. The star of the show however has to be the madcap breakcore edits of the Fantastic Planet remix, which carries a simply unbelievable level of detail. Badass chops!

Check out the clips below and head to your favourite store to buy the release; it’s also available for free via Topspin.

Classic Album: Evol Intent – Era of Diversion

It’s hard to believe that seven years have passed since US D&B legends Evol Intent dropped their debut LP Era Of Diversion. I remember the release vividly and still rinse out tracks like 8 Bit Bitch and Middle Of The Night regularly in my sets, and the album is still a fantastic listen from start to finish. Being the generous coves that they are, the trio are celebrating the album’s anniversary by giving away a download of the whole thing for nothing! You’ve got a week to take advantage so check out a stream below and head over here to grab a download.

Ten Years of Vision Recordings

Noisia’s Vision Recordings imprint is among the pack of esteemed D&B labels celebrating its 10th anniversary, and to mark the occasion they’ve remastered a host of top tracks from the Vision back catalogue which they’ll be releasing on CD, USB stick and digital download alongside two new tracks exclusive to the compilation (both of which you can preview below).

For the merchandise-hungry there are also bundles available featuring a 10 years of Vision t-shirt and a rather tasty (if somewhat expensive) 12″ artwork book featuring full size, full colour artwork from every single release on the label. Head over to the Noisia store to pick up one of the bundles now, or cop it from your favourite digital outlet.

Evol Intent – Under The Radar EP

Evol Intent have been pretty generous with the freebies over the last few months with a solid selection of upfront D&B bangers going up on their Soundcloud for free download. The latest in the selection, Noscope, dropped a few days ago and provided more tearout vibes for the rowdy-time crowd – massive basslines and a complete lack of subtlety are the order of the day here, and we can’t argue with it at all!

For those looking to support the group in their endeavours, the Under The Radar EP (collecting recent belters including Jim Skyner, Cognitive Divergence and This Is Not A Dream) will be going on sale from December 15th. Check out the tracks below and either grab a free download or throw some dollar their way via iTunes.

Classic Track: Future Cut – Ghetto Style (Evol Intent Remix)

We’re digging in the hardware vaults once again for this week’s classic track and looking back to the golden era of hard as nails techstep. 10 years ago Evol Intent’s remix of Future Cut’s Ghetto Style saw release on Renegade Hardware’s Reloaded EP Part 1, and their rework absolutely knocks the track out of the park.

Rattling breakbeats, huge distorted bass hits and that trademark Evol Intent glitchwork along with a set of memorable hooks on the intro make this a firm favourite, and better still it got the remaster treatment as part of EI’s #TBT weekly giveaways! Check out the remaster below and grab yourself a free download from their Soundcloud.

Evol Intent – Middle of the Night Remix Contest

Ever wanted the opportunity to remix Evol Intent? Well now’s your chance – the guys have teamed up with Audeze and Xfer Records to run a remix contest for their classic track Middle of the Night. Check out the original below and head over here for all the details.

August Freebie Roundup

With so many great freebies surfacing over the last few weeks we thought it high time to round up our favourites here at the Dojo. First up, the ever busy Quentin Hiatus dropped a tidy free track in conjunction with his recent interview for KMag. Brooding atmosphere, deep sub and a plodding half-time riddim combine on this genre-blending slice of 170BPM business.

Evol Intent continue their steady stream of free giveaways with the typically monstrous Cognitive Divergance; described by the trio as “a modern exploration into the late 90s tech era of drum and bass”, this one is full of big bad reese bass and a relentless drum line.

Terabyte/Transmission/Sub:mission boss-man Altered Perception brings us a tight techstep roller in the form of Neurosis. Swirling bass groans and a crisp break are sure to do some damage.

Arkaik celebrates 1000 Facebook likes with a deep dark remix of Shiver’s Crossover, featuring some top notch angular riddims. Head to DNBShare to grab this one.

BSE’s Blackout imprint get ready for the launch of their next EP with a freebie from Concept Vision & Segment – big nasty rolling neuro vibes as you’d expect! Head to the Blackout Facebook page to get it.

Amen badman FFF presents us with a full 6 track EP of his raggacore stylings – if you like your breaks chopped to hell and back, look no further! Download at the Murder Channel Bandcamp page.

Last but not least Dojo head honcho Hex gives away an old school techstep roller in the form of The Law to celebrate 500 Soundcloud followers. Big distorted 808 hits and gnarly reese bass are the order of the day here, with a few choice samples from Dredd thrown in for good measure.

Q&A – Evol Intent

Recent times have been busy for Evol Intent; between their solo aliases, touring, giving away tasty freebies and some big collabs with the likes of Noisia, it’s been a great year for the stateside trio. We thought it was high time for a chat, and Gigantor kindly agreed! Read on for his thoughts on free music, the “EDM” bubble and more.
