In The Mix…The Upbeats

Kiwi neurofunk legends The Upbeats bring us a mix full of brand new cuts and huge double drops to celebrate their appearance at Playaz x Fabriclive last Friday. The tracklist is 100% Upbeats material, featuring cuts from their recent album alongside older beats such as their remix of Ewun’s Screw Up and some of the releases from their own Non Vogue imprint. Fans of the heavier end of D&B should definitely check this one out!

Seismix – Code / Sincere [Violation Music]

Usually I’m skeptical of press release hype but I think Violation Music are genuinely onto a “hidden gem” with this release from up and coming producer Seismix. With releases on BTK’s Dutty Audio imprint and DJ support from the likes of Sabre, Octane & DLR, Insideinfo, Cern and Hybris, I wouldn’t imagine he’ll stay hidden for long mind.

Code delivers dancefloor tech at its best, combining atmospheric synths, rolling drum breaks, deft synth work and that all important bass growl to create a tune that will fit right into any dark D&B DJ set. Over on the flip, the man shows us a little more depth with a half-time tune that’s all about the percussion; natural hits and fill abound, with the warm sub adding to the deep, tribal feel.

Watch out for the single dropping July 1st via all good digital outlets.

Billain – Supertensor [Mindtech]

As if the recent release of the epic Boogie on Bad Taste wasn’t enough, Billain is back with more dirty new neurofunk, this time for the 3rd in the Mindtech Limited vinyl series. Supertensor delivers the trademark Billain style in spades, from the craftsmanship of the sound design on the intro, through the cranium-shattering, hyper-compressed snares and out into the filthy warping bass. This is a release from a man at the top of his game and to my mind one of the best dark neurofunk producers in the game right now.

Over on the flip Allied steps up to the plate and lays down Equilateral which is no slouch either! Heavy, rolling breaks and gut wrenching sub in equal portions, another Mindtech beat that’s sure to move a floor or three.

Look out for this one dropping April 8th on vinyl and digital!

Black Sun Empire – From The Shadows [BSE]

While Dutch drum & bass veterans Black Sun Empire have certainly been busy gigging and organising their Blackout nights (which have recently touched down in the UK, to great success) new music from the trio has been fairly thin on the ground since their last album Lights and Wires. Apparently the boys have been busy and just not telling anyone though, as the emergence of the sampler for their 5th album From The Shadows shows.

More of a tease than a true show of new material, the sampler nonetheless showcases some seriously stomping remixes of tracks from Lights by the likes of Jade, Neonlight, Mindspace and Telekinesis. If you like your drum & bass big, bad and thoroughly growling then look no further than this!
