Get To Know: Lossless Music

The brainchild of Soul Intent, Lossless Music began life as many such artist-run labels do – as an outlet for Alex’s own productions. That changed in a big way from 2016 onwards, as Lossless began to welcome other artists to the roster both on the main imprint and two other sub-labels – Exkursions, for more leftfield D&B, and Dope Plates for old-school jungle and rave-tinged outings.

Whether it’s his own work or that of other producers, the label trifecta has gone from strength to strength and shows no sign of stopping. Read on for five of our favourites from the Lossless vaults…

Premiere: Lao Wai & LaMeduza – Tie Me Up (SCAR Remix)

Unbelievably hyped to welcome the mighty SCAR to our premiere spotlight today as the duo take on Lao Wai & LaMeduza’s new track for Addictive Behaviour, Tie Me Up. Delivering the customary scuzzy tech bass and razor sharp breaks while retaining the soulful vocal of the original, this is a vintage dark roller; yes yes. Look for the release (which also features a dangerous Philth remix alongside the two wicked originals) from Sep 16th at Beatport, with other platforms following on the 30th.

Andy Sim – Liquidambar [Think Deep]

Liquid heads should already be familiar with Sydney’s Andy Sim; with releases for the likes of Good Looking, Fokuz, Rubik and of course his own Think Deep imprint he’s been a strong name (in an admittedly crowded niche) for the last eight years.

2015 sees him finally releasing the LP that he’s been working on for the last five years, and while it’s not stylistically groundbreaking it is an honest and heartfelt collection of tracks which are well worthy of your attention. The body of work bears the hallmarks of a labour of love – these tracks weren’t knocked up in a month and thrown together hastily, but rather have been tweaked and tinkered to perfection, if such a thing is musically possible.

Highlights come on the sparse, dubby Innerspace, the soft, jazzy licks of the LaMeduza-vocalled In Front Of You and the shimmering notes of Fantastic, but picking favourites is difficult. Listen to the clips below and make up your own mind; this one drops at all good digital retailers from June 22nd, and you can grab it on CD directly from Think Deep.

Gerwin & LaMeduza – Life Cycle [Dust Audio]

Dust Audio present their fifth release with three great new tracks from some of the best producers in the scene. Gerwin teams up with vocalist LaMeduza for a soft liquid stepper tinged with grimey bass in the inimitable liquid-tech hybrid style that I always enjoyed from the French producer. Next up rising star Trilo delivers a typically militant slice of rolling tech D&B, with crisp breaks and dark, dirty bass the order of the day.

Last but not least, the mighty Break steps up to remix Gerwin’s A-side, upping the energy on the beats and lending the tune a more dancefloor-friendly vibe while retaining the soul of the original. Check out the clips below and watch out for the release dropping on vinyl and digital December 15th!
