Total Science, Quadrant & Iris – Pushin Your Luck [CIA]

CIA are back, and that means only one thing – rollers! Label owners Total Science team up with Seattle production duo Quadrant & Iris for a weighty, old school roller on Pushin Your Luck, which wins zero points for innovation but 10/10 for being big, bad and generally dangerous!

Over on the flip Obsolete gets the VIP treatment, retaining the spirit of the original but adding some cheeky little rhythm and bass tweaks to dust the cobwebs off the track; worthy, but unlikely to trouble the A side for our money. Check out the clips below and grab this one from the CIA bandcamp right now!

Anile – All This Time / That Night [CIA Deepkut]

It seems Anile is after the throne that many would argue Lenzman has had locked down for a good while now, turning in a pair of polished deep liquid rollers for CIA Deepkut. All This Time leads in with mellow, piano-led vibes and a soft, reverb drenched vocal from Hannah Eve. Definitely one for the 5am crew.

Over on the flip, That Night delivers more understated piano and warm sub set to a rolling Calibre-esque break. The beauty of both tunes lies in their simplicity, eschewing the often over-saturated nature of modern D&B in favour of a stripped back, cleaner sound.

Check out the clips below and watch out for both tunes dropping sometime in July.

In The Mix…Klute

Klute gets behind the decks to deliver the 14th entry in the Sun & Bass podcast series, mixing up a fine selection of beats from Critical, CIA, Subtitles and Innerground alongside a healthy spread of tunes from his own Commercial Suicide imprint. Techy vibes with a hint of depth and a wealth of character. Check out the mix below and watch out for the Sun & Bass lineup dropping very soon!

Chroma – Intermission / Knock Knock [CIA]

The latest in a series of D&B supergroups sees Phobia, Sato & Tyrone team up to present Chroma. Fresh from releases for Renegade Hardware and ProgRAM, their latest endeavours will be dropping on Total Science’s CIA imprint late this month.

It’s not hard to see why Total Science signed these tunes; both have the classic CIA roller vibe to them, with Intermission on the A side bringing the warm sub while Knock Knock on the flip brings a slightly tougher beat and some very Photek-esque stabs to the party. Old school vibes with new school production, top notch!

Watch out for the release on vinyl and digital from May 20th.

Tuned In Two LP [CIA]

The release of new material on Total Science‘s CIA Records imprint is always a pleasure, with the boys always keeping the quality ridiculously high and only putting out releases when they’re good and ready. This latest LP (the sequel to Tuned In some eleven years on) showcases that quality from a variety of artists across pretty much all the styles of Drum & Bass, and even among a year of so many LP releases shines through as a great album.

The LP delivers deeper tracks like Lenzman’s remix of Past Lives and the beautiful Stolen Moments from Riya & Zero T alongside techier numbers from the likes of Spirit, 8-Bits & Q-Project and Beta 2, along with some standout leftfield drumwork from Fracture on The Breaks. You can stream a few of my favourites below, so check it out and go grab yourself a copy from your favourite store!

Riya & Zero T – Stolen Moments

Beta 2 – Perceptions

Spirit – Dream Demon

Fracture – The Breaks

Zero T – Red Hand [CIA Deepkut]

The latest release on CIA’s Deepkut sublabel sees Zero T coming in with a tidy stepper in the form of Red Hand. A seriously infectious bassline and super tight drum rolls to fill out the beat make for a sure fire dancefloor hit. Check it out below and grab yourself a copy from your favourite vinyl/digital outlet!
