Anodyne Industries – Make Your Body A Darker Weapon [IDMf]

San Francisco based Anodyne Industries is a new name to my ears but definitely one I’ll be keeping a close eye on in future. His release in the extensive and varied catalogue of the IDMf net label (which admittedly I’m coming too rather late on, given it’s release back in 2011) is a tasty selection of dark, warped beats across various styles and tempos.

The EP includes a selection of remixes both by AI and others of Make It Darker and Body Weapon, plus a bonus in the form of After The Storm. Highlights for me are the skittering, leftfield neurofunk vibes of Make It Darker (AI Remix), the dark, atmospheric halfstep of Body Weapon (AI Remix) and the sublime IDM-tinged Dubstep of Make It Darker (IG88 Remix). Check it out below and grab yourself a download from bandcamp on a free/pay what you like basis.

Kreed – Progression LP [Lifestyle]

Lifestyle bring us a brilliant full length LP from rising producer Kreed. Covering a nice spectrum of styles, from the punchy hip-hop of opener Soul Tape to the shuffling dubby vibes of Inspector Slim and out into the deep house of Lean, Kreed has certainly proved himself a man of diverse talents.

Fear not though, Lifestyle haven’t abandoned their D&B roots; the 170 is present in abundance elsewhere such as the excellent minimal, jazz inspired Zulu Shenanigans and the deep soulful roller that is Low End Culture. Check out the beats below and watch out for this one dropping June 10th via all good digital outlets.

Get to Know…Lifted Music

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock somewhere since 2006 it seems unlikely that you won’t have heard of Lifted Music. Starting early with a succession of classic releases from the likes of Spor, Evol Intent Ewun and Apex, the label had a quiet patch for a bit but has recently had all guns blazing once again with a slew of great releases over the last few months and plenty more to come.

Late last year the label came out with a seriously tidy EP in the form of From Roots To Wings. Featuring massive, futuristic tech-funk from Aeph, Memtrix, Neonlight, Receptor & Infuze, the release was all about dancefloor stompage and it delivered that by the spades.

Not content with that, Lifted squeezed out a 4 track EP from Neonlight just before Christmas with more heavy yet melodic tunes. Computer Music in particular has barely left my sets recently.

Not content with dominating the drum & bass scene, Lifted have just dropped a high quality Dubstep release from Meta with his second EP for their Lifted Dub arm. Delivering far more melody and production value than much of the over-saturated 140 BPM market but still retaining that futuristic Lifted sound, this is definitely worth a look.

Just in case you needed any further encouragement, here’s a classic from the back catalogue, Spor’s Knock You Down from LFTD001. Check it out, and grab the releases from the Lifted Store!

ARP XP – Closer [IM:Ltd]

Italian producer ARP XP is a new name for us here at TEB, but his debut LP (out on French label IM:Ltd) shows him as one to watch. The album is a showcase of the producer’s versatility, crossing styles and tempos while retaining a unified, deep vibe.

From the soulful half step stylings of titular opener Closer through dark steppers like Sickness of Time and deep rollers (Surrealism and Keep Your Head Up High) the album represents the diversity present in modern Drum & Bass aptly. Elsewhere on the record, ARP XP explores the ~130 BPM tempo range to good effect on Curiouser and What We See.

Check out the album below and grab it on CD or Digital from your favourite record store!

Lung – Why Does Anyone Ever Do Anything? EP [Med School]

21 year old Cardiff-based producer Lung has been making quite a name for himself over the past year or so and his latest release for Med School sees him moving from strength to strength. The title track sees him collaborate with Rachel K. Collier to produce a gorgeous uplifiting slice of liquid drum & bass, while elsewhere on the EP he explores lower tempos and half step beats. Crisp snares and warm synths are the order of the day.

Preview the whole EP below and watch out for the release on April 16th!

Sabrepulse – First Crush EP

Those familiar with the 8-bit scene should recognise Sabrepulse but for anyone with less geeky tendencies, this dude makes music with Gameboys. A prolific member of the scene for many years, Sabrepulse’s production styles vary from release to release – his older material was very much breakcore in influence, while this latest EP covers 8-bit style Drum’n’bass, Dubstep and Electro.

Opening track First Crush (featuring Knife City aka Luke from Anamanguchi) is a sublime bit of cheery bleeped up drum’n’bass with a slick transitional bridge which takes us down to 140bpm for a bit of a dubstep vibe before bringing the tempo back up. City at Speed is a piano driven liquid roller which brings to mind the likes of Camo & Krooked, layered over with Sabrepulse’s trademark 8-bit vibes. Other tracks like Arcanine and Paradise explore dubstep territory with maximum wonk and wobble (a little OTT for my taste I must admit) while The Rapture and Futureproof provide tidy slices of euphoric electro house. Best of all the whole EP is free! Grab it from http://sabrepulse.bandcamp.com/ or stream below.
