Mindscape – Rat Pack EP [Eatbrain]

Eatbrain return with another slice of dark, hefty neurofunk to round out an exceptionally strong 2013 that has seen huge EPs from the likes of Nickbee, Telekinesis and Teddy Killerz.

This time Hungarian veteran and longtime Jade collaborator Mindscape steps up to the plate, and fans of his previous output won’t be disappointed. Rat Pack hits home with massive snares, wonky bass and some apt sci-fi style samples, while Brightness proves to be a full on assault of aggressive midrange sawtooth and skittering breaks.

Elsewhere BTK gets in on the action for the super catchy bass hooks and hypnotic lead melody of Road Rage, before Space & Time closes the EP with frenetic bassline modulations and a glitched up vocal slice. Check out the clips below and grab a copy on vinyl or digital from your favourite retailer!

Nickbee – Animal Rage EP [Eatbrain]

Jade’s Eatbrain imprint continues the assault on your ears with another EP of fresh neurofunk beats, this time from Ukrainian beatsmith Nickbee. Apollo 18 kicks things off with a heavy hitting roller; tasty sci-fi atmospherics on the intro give way to squelching bass action and hard snares, with a few echoing chord stabs thrown in for good measure. The titular Animal Rage builds suspense on a long intro with swelling pads, cymbals and strings all adding to the tension before a growling bass drop kicks things into gear.

Gain The Energy delivers more techie sci-fi business with a hypnotic lead that fans of Black Sun Empire are sure to love, before Nickbee throws us a curveball on Blackline, dropping the tempo down to 130 for a nice chunky breakbeat track with more teeth than the average. Neurobreaks? Whatever, it’s awesome. Check out the beats below and grab a copy on vinyl or digital now!

As if the hefty release wasn’t enough, Nickbee has also put together a slamming mix for episode 10 of the Eatbrain podcast. Check it out and grab a free download below.

In The Mix…Teddy Killerz

Teddy Killerz get on the 1s and 2s for the latest episode of the Eatbrain podcast, delivering 68 minutes of rolling neuro goodness. The mix is packed full of new material from Teddy Killerz (including a bunch of new Bad Taste dubs) alongside beats from the likes of Audio, Aeph, Mefjus, Mindscape and Gridlok. Hard and heavy from start to finish, get to know!

Teddy Killerz – Violence EP [Eatbrain]

With a promising opening salvo of releases from label owner Jade alongside the likes of Mindscape, BSE, Neonlight and Mefjus, I had high hopes for Eatbrain from the beginning. Their last release from Telekinesis really raised the bar though, and their 7th release from Teddy Killerz continues in that veign; right now, Eatbrain is the label for big, angry neurofunk.

The titular Violence opens the EP in style with some serious bass riffage and a pounding drum line combined with some subtle touches of sound design and an insistent hook. 2SHY steps up to provide vocals for the near obligatory MC-imbued track Blackout, but despite the fairly generic vocal the track doesn’t disappoint, providing heaps of warped neuro bass, another cheeky wee hook and a slight swung kick-led beat.

Newcomers Mizo & Zendi come to the table for the third track; Bad Omen kicks the atmosphere up a notch on the intro with some pretty epic synth swells building the track up over filtered breaks before a huge drop that brings to mind Task Horizons excellent work on the Evolved EP. The break even features a melancholy guitar solo before some apt cinematic sampling and another huge drop. Finally Jacob sees the duo stripping things back to a heavy, swung beat with little more than a kick and a snare, and a whopping great beast of a bass riff.

Watch out for this one dropping June 10th on vinyl and June 24th on digital.

In The Mix…Jade [Eatbrain]

Jade returns with the 6th episode of the sporadic Eatbrain podcast series and serves up a healthy portion of neurofunk for your listening pleasure! Brand new Eatbrain dubs from Telekinesis and Teddy Killerz feature alongside new beats and classic tracks from the likes of Noisia, Black Sun Empire, Dom & Roland, Neonlight and Bad Company. Dark and nasty all the way, just how we like it!

Telekinesis – The Nightwalkers EP [Eatbrain]

Slovenian neurofunk duo Telekinesis have bult up a small but healthy catalogue of releases over the last couple of years on respected labels like Breed 12 Inches, Bad Taste, oBSEssions and Close 2 Death, and their latest release for Jade’s Eatbrain imprint builds on that success aptly.

Opener Pocket Full Of Drops does exactly what it says on the tin, coming hard and heavy with a rolling beat and a hype vocal from MC Coppa. Title track Nightwalkers sees the duo team up with Kiwi stalwart Concord Dawn for a slightly more melodic but no less heavy hitting number, all atmosphere on the build up before heading into a hefty drop with a tasty synth lead that CD fans will be familiar with.

Lich continues the EP nicely with a slice of techy upbeat funk that’s as well paced as it is insistent; the duo have dialed back the bass ever so slightly to a level where this would sit nicely in almost any set but is still sure to get the floor moving.

Last but not least She Wants To Skate brings in a bouncy beat and warped bass with a slightly trancey lead and some nice vocal cut ups. All in all this is an EP that neuro fans will be itching to get their grubby mits on!

Watch out for more previews over the coming weeks.
