Remembering Spirit

Once again the scene has lost a great talent far too early. As you’ve probably already heard by now, Duncan “Spirit” Busto passed away on August 26th following a cardiac arrest earlier that month.  We’re big fans of Spirit here at Dojo HQ, so in no particular order we’ve compiled a list of our favourite tracks from his back catalogue. Rest in peace mate…your music will live on.

Spirit – Interval [Dispatch]

The lead track from his recent EP for Dispatch, Interval is a masterclass in hypnotic melody set over a classic rolling Spirit drum line. Majestic.

Spirit – Raygun [Function]

Winding things back to 2001, Raygun is a straight up Spirit heater. Simple but effective, that tearing reese line has smashed up a fair few clubs over the years!

Digital & Spirit – Phantom Force (Spirit Remix)

One of D&Bs most iconic underground tunes, and the subject of countless remixes and variations including the recently caned Phantom 2018, this one never gets old.

Morphy – Put Down Your Gunz (Spirit’s Riot Remix) [Foundation X]

A recent outing on Foundation X that proved Spirit was still more than capable of flipping tunes round into dangerous new heaters. Dub, jungle, massive.

Spirit – VIP Dial [Inneractive]

Another tune which has seen countless reworks and variations over the years, for our money the VIP Dial version is the best. Serious club anthem.

Digital, Spirit & Total Science – Jigsaw [CIA vs. Phantom Audio]

2016s two collaborative EPs between Phantom Audio and Total Science’s CIA imprint yielded some huge tunes with an old school vibe, and Jigsaw was among the best.

Spirit – Life Goes On [Blu Mar Ten Music]

Duncan loved an acid line as demonstrated by various leads over the years and one of the most memorable comes on the deep, playful Life Goes On – Spirit’s sole appearance on Blu Mar Ten’s imprint.

Spirit – Interstate [Ingredients]

Last but not least, a seriously subby deep roller from the Ingredients:050 album. Understated…just like the man himself.
