Dojo Damager: Mefjus – Blitz

Austrian neuro wizard Mefjus returns to our weekly Dojo Damager feature with the title track from his forthcoming EP for Neosignal, Blitz. Three years on from his debut for the Neodigital arm of Phace & Misanthrop’s high class imprint it seems entirely fitting that Mefjus is now back on the main label with a solo EP and trust us, it’s all fire!

Blitz takes a leaf out of Phace’s playbook with a driving, throbbing bass groove set to a heavy drum line. The punchy arrangement makes for an utterly relentless vibe while still feeling more nuanced than the tearout stylings employed by some producers in the neurofunk scene. As the vocal sample so aptly puts it, more impact! Check out the track below and look for the EP dropping next month on vinyl and digital.

Dojo Damager: Icicle & Safire – Suction Cap

Plasma Audio are back with another slamming release and the A side is our pick for this week’s Dojo Damager! Dutch technical wizard Icicle teams up with Ozzy native Safire for a relentless onslaught of scuzzy low end punishment and precise neurofunk drums. The lead melody has an air of the technoid sound pioneered by the likes of Raiden which is just the icing on a big bass-laden cake; tasty business! Check out the clip below and pick this one up from your favourite digital outlet now.

Dojo Damager: Phace & Culprate – Logic Bomb

This week’s Dojo Damager comes from German neuro powerhouse Phace and Bristol wunderkind Culprate who bring us the dangerously tweaked out vibes of Logic Bomb. If the sound of a super computer completely losing it’s silicone mind could be digitised and imbued with a hefty layer of sub bass, the result would be this; relentless scattershot percussion and savage bass stabs combined with that ultra precise Phace engineering makes for quite a tune!

Check out the Noisia Radio premiere of the track below and grab it as part of the Phace & Friends EP on Critical from Nov 13th.

Dojo Damager: AI & SCAR – Letting It Go

This week’s Dojo Damager comes courtesy of the Metalheadz camp as they wind up for the release of Artificial Intelligence’s new Timeline LP later this month. For the first LP sampler’s exclusive track AI have teamed up with fellow ‘headz alumni SCAR for a perfect blend of the rough and the smooth, and it’s been doing the damage here at Dojo HQ!

Lulling us into a false sense of security with a lush, soulful intro before piling into a scuzzy bassline and those indestructibly solid breaks, Letting It Go is sure to rip up any dancefloor with its pure rolling danger. Heavy business! Hit up the Metalheadz store to grab the sampler on vinyl or digital now and watch for the full album dropping Nov 20th.

Dojo Damager: Cirrus – Nightmare

We’re taking things dark and militant for this week’s Damager selection with a look at the appropriately titled Nightmare from the brand new Cirrus EP for Nurtured Beatz.

Built on a backbone of throbbing bass pressure and heavy halftime kicks, Nightmare really brings the terror with drum switchups into relentless breakbeat anger via crunchy, clattering amens. Savage business! Check out the clip below and hit up the Nurtured Beatz bandcamp to grab the whole EP now.

Dojo Damager: Krakota – Crash Pads

This week’s Dojo Damager comes courtesy of Hospital Records and Krakota. Krakota’s Citadels EP features four varied new tracks, the gnarliest (and arguably best) of which is the raved up smasher that is Crash Pads.

From the wonky old school chords of the intro to the hard snares and snarling bass distortions, this track is 110% hype from start to finish and a certified dancefloor weapon! Serious business; check out the clip below and hit up the Hospital Store to grab a copy on vinyl or digital right now.

Dojo Damager: InsideInfo & Mefjus – Pulsation

This week’s Dojo Damager comes from neurofunk production stalwarts InsideInfo & Mefjus who lay down the absolutely stomping riddims of Pulsation for Viper Recordings. Eschewing the hyper complexity of some of their previous output, this one is all stripped-back punch and groove, tailored with that impossibly crisp production the pair have made such a name for themselves with.

The simple staccato melody on the intro builds tension beautifully before the gut wrenching drop starts landing alternating body blows from the sub and snares. Sheer heft! Check out the clip below and look for this on vinyl or digital right now.

Dojo Damager: Evol Intent – Scavenger’s Paradize

US party starters Evol Intent have been at the forefront of the hard D&B scene for over a decade with their pioneering mix of gangster rap, glitch and balls to the wall D&B. With the generous trio dropping yet another dangerous freebie it seemed only right to name Scavengers Paradize this week’s Dojo Damager!

Mashing up previous Evol tracks Scavenger and Paradize City, this is an infectious blend of NWA samples, G-Funk synths and a massive, hard hitting D&B backbone. Sprinkle in a few shotgun clicks and you’re good to go! Check it out below and hit up the Evol Intent soundcloud to grab a copy right now.

Dojo Damager: Current Value – Pulverized

To say that Current Value has a pedigree in the hard D&B scene is something of an understatement; the German producer has been knocking the fuck out of sound systems worldwide for almost two decades and judging by his latest work for BSE’s Blackout imprint he’s in no danger of losing his touch.

Our pick of his latest EP for this week’s Dojo Damager is the appropriately punishing Pulverized. Bringing together a classic technoid bleep melody with savage bassline pressure and a relentless drum line, this tune does exactly what it says on the tin. Ooooooft!

Dojo Damager: Quadrant, Iris & Cease – Wirecutter

This week’s Damager comes courtesy of Seattle-based husband & wife team Quadrant & Iris. The duo and their regular collaborator Kid Hops are set to release their debut LP through Klute’s ever excellent Commercial Suicide imprint and the first few tracks dropped via the LP sampler last week.

While the sampler (and doubtless the forthcoming album) plays host to a varied selection of styles, one of the highlights comes on the unashamed rollout of Wirecutter, produced in collaboration with Chris Cease. Harking back to the golden era of techstep and eschewing the hyperactivity of neurofunk production, this is a straight up punishing groove with heavy drums and a low, pulsing bassline. Perfectly executed, and guaranteed to destroy a dancefloor. Yes yes!
