Severity is back on Unchained with his second release for the label, and we’ve got the premiere today of lead track Hyperghetto! Blending footwork sensibilities into the D&B template, this one is a rapid-fire head-nodder with a hip-hop edge; maximum swagger. Release coming Aug 30th at all the best digital emporiums…
US experimental beatsmith Calculon is in our mix series hotseat today, serving up a wicked selection of raved up halftime, footwork infused bangers and jungle-tinged melters. Dancefloor flavours and all sorts of wickedness, plus watch out for beats from the man himself including his new single with Dave Owen & Jaybee which is out now on None60.
Aufect celebrate ten years in the game this month with a massive compilation featuring a host of talent from the weirder end of the 170 spectrum, and what better way to get in on the festivities than with a premiere from label bosses Greazus! Mother F sees them teaming up with Detroit beatsmith Sinistarr for a typically infectious slice of halftime/footwork hybridisation; sick tune! Look for this coming alongside 27 other tasty treats at digital stores December 13th…
Toronto producer Stranjah is back in our premiere hot seat alongside fellow Vortex crew-member Captivate as they bring a cracking slice of halftime jungle to Greazus’ Aufect Platinum imprint. Blending classic breaks with influences from trap and footwork, this one packs a heavy sub punch and a healthy dose of breakbeat attitude. Wicked stuff! Look for this alongside four solo Stranjah tracks dropping July 27th at all good digital stores…
Another top notch crossover footwork jungle effort from Beat Machine is in our spotlight today and this time it’s Leeds producer Breaka on the buttons! Infectious riddims, crispy beats and a seriously catchy vocal hook…yes please. Watch out for 7″ vinyl and digital dropping July 19th…
US experimental beatsmith Sinistarr steps up with the latest for Beat Machine’s excellent run of Swinging Flavors 7″ releases, serving up an infectious take on the footwork-infused D&B sound. As with most of Sinistarr’s best work this one is all in the drums, with some wicked percussive fills giving the tune little bursts of extra energy.
As with previous instalments of the series the label have commissioned a big remix and this time it’s Om Unit who delivers it under his recently revived Philip D. Kick alias. Adding some extra drive in the bassline and a jungle-y feel in the drum section, this is an extra layer of icing on an already excellent sonic cake.
Last but by no means least, Sinistarr delivers a digital bonus replete with skittering drum patterns and wobbly sub bass textures on Clear Your Mind. Three wicked tracks from a series (and indeed a label) that has yet to disappoint us here at Dojo HQ! Check it out below and hit up the Beat Machine Bandcamp to grab it on vinyl or digital now.
Vancouver imprint Black Tuna Recordings return after a short hiatus with a new EP from Canadian production duo Levrige, and we’re hyped to have the exclusive premiere of Grym! Incorporating influences from hip-hop, trap and footwork into the halftime D&B template, this one has an infectious groove and some serious bassweight behind it. Sick! Grym drops this Friday as part of the Lemme CU EP.
Fans of the recent boom in “future jungle” will definitely be into this one; Evol Intent Recordings present the latest in their intermittent but excellent release schedule with a top class EP from San Francisco producer UFO!
Better known in recent years for lower-tempo bass music and trap beats, UFO! returns to his jungle roots for this EP, keeping things frantic but still melding in plenty of unusual influences from elsewhere in the electronic spectrum.
YGMFU kicks things off with booming bass and classic jungle breaks, while Thing Into My Brain takes cues from footwork with its combination of syncopated sub rhythm and hyperactive vocal cut ups. This one is a proper ear-worm, and the rapidity just makes it all the more infectious.
Logue combines more of that dangerous breakbeat intensity with hip-hop influenced bass vibrations worthy of fellow SF basshead EPROM, leaving Ghost Behaviour to dial things down a notch for a light-edged shuffle with a slightly tropical sound.
Four hyped-up future jungle cuts lovingly sandwiched between spacey intro/outro material makes for a wicked little EP! Here’s hoping we hear more 170 business from UFO! in the future; check out the beats below and hit up your favourite digital store to grab the EP right now.
Three member’s of Germany’s Depth Range crew have joined forces to present our final exclusive mix for 2017! Featuring a bunch of their own beats alongside cuts from the likes of EPROM, Ivy Lab, Crimes!, Fixate and Om Unit, the mix showcases all things forward-thinking in the 170 realm with wonky halftime, footwork-jungle and experimental beats a-plenty. Wicked selections to round out the year, check it.
With a new EP out on Terabyte records, German crew Depth Range (aka Kid Kun, HP.Ritch & ReDraft) are showcasing their experimental blend of D&B once again. Drawing influence from juke, hip-hop, halftime and footwork, the resulting sound is pretty damn exciting. We caught up with the guys to find out more about the Amazia EP, their approach to production and throwing parties in their homeland.
