Dojo Damager: BSE & State of Mind – Kill That Noise

This week’s Dojo Damager comes courtesy of Black Sun Empire & State of Mind with the ferocious Kill That Noise. Taken from their brand new EP The Violent Five (which we’re guessing is a little nod to Tarantino and The Hateful Eight), KTN delivers an absolutely slamming slice of tech D&B; simple but effective bass swells and an old school rolling break backed up by a hypnotic, bleeping lead melody make this a sure fire smasher. Weighty!

Black Sun Empire & State Of Mind – Until The World Ends [Blackout Music]

When it comes to heavy dancefloor neurofunk, Black Sun Empire and State of the Mind have been at the top of the game for some time, and their latest collaborative EP sees them on fine form. There are no surprises on offer here, just high octane, precision engineered D&B poised to tear up a club crowd. Check out the clips below and head to Beatport to grab the EP now.

State Of Mind vs. Soligen & Type-2 – Biology EP [Citrus Recordings]

Citrus return with their first release in 6 months; an unusual lull for the generally busy Dutch label. Kiwi neuro duo State Of Mind kick off the 12″ with another slice of their signature rolling dancefloor business; big atmospheric pads and what sounds like glockenspiel on the intro give way to a typically savage bassline and a big fat kick snare rhythm. Dancefloor heft in spades; no surprises there given the SOM back catalogue.

On the flip Lincoln-based rising stars Soligen & Type-2 present Biology. Showing off their sound design chops on the intro with some weird and wonderful noises, we’re treated to a smooth flow from an unknown voice (possible one of the duo themselves) before the tune drops into a sub heavy bas and breaks workout. Check out the clips below and watch out for this on vinyl and digital from September 15th (pre-orders available now at Triple Vision).

Borderline – Flashes of the Future [SOM Music]

State of Mind welcome fellow kiwi producer Borderline to their label for his debut LP and if you like your D&B energetic then this should be right up your street! The album serves up 12 crisp tracks of neurofunk business with an emphasis on growling basslines and rolling breaks, with all the tunes of an exactingly high quality.

Highlights come courtesy of the squelching bass of Colossus, the wobbly modulations of State of Mind collab Square One and the catchy vocal led Feelings, blending an R&B style vocal with heavy D&B beats to great effect. Check out clips of some of the tracks below and grab yourself a copy at your favourite digital outlet now!

Festive Freebies!

With so many artists celebrating a great 2013 with free giveaways, we thought it only wise to round up the selection of tasty freebies currently available!

Firstly Xtrah has been kind enough to give us the VIP of Soundclash, a masterclass in minimalism and drum edits. To grab this, head to his Facebook page.

Also from the Critical stable comes a cheeky VIP from Emperor who gives us the dubplate special of Monolith. Significantly wonkier bassline business than the original on show here, and again available for a wee like on Emperor’s Facebook page.

State of Mind celebrate the impending release of their new album on BSE’s Blackout imprint with a free download of their BSE Collab Unconscious. As we’ve come to expect from both parties this is a stomping neurofunk belter imbued with faintly trancey chords and plenty of energy. Head over to the SOM Facebook page for your copy.

The ever unpredictable Dawn Day Night steps up with a freebie of his own in the form of A Christmas Carol…droney zombified slow-dance anyone?

Maztek & NPhonix have also gotten in on the act with a tidy slice of scuzzy neuro business, available for download either via Facebook or email – check out Maztek’s website for details.

Finally S.P.Y gifts us the VIP of the legendary By Your Side, still as majestic as the original but with a few subtle extra touches. Blissfull liquid roller territory. Grab yourself a download from S.P.Y’s website.

Black Sun Empire – Variations on Black [Blackout]

Black Sun Empire return with yet another essential release for neurofunk fans everywhere as they open up their back catalogue for remixes from a selection of the biggest names in the scene. Among the best released so far are Noisia’s epic rework of Arrakis, State of Mind’s rolling rework of Don’t You and Chris.SU’s typically heavy hitting yet melodic rework of Fever. There are many more yet unheard tracks so keep an eye on soundcloud and youtube over the coming weeks rolling up to the release on November 18th.

In addition BSE have teamed up with Beatport to allow folks the chance to win a bunch of Novation gear and a spot on the album by remixing their classic Noisia collaboration Hideous. Head on over to Beatport for the details and get to work!
