Optiv & BTK – Bad Attitude [Blackout]

Black Sun Empire launch their new Blackout Imprint in style with an EP of huge new beats from Optiv & BTK. Fans of the duo’s previous work on Virus, Dutty Audio and beyond should definitely check this out, big bad neurofunk stompers all the way and engineered with the precision we’ve come to know and love. Check out the clips below and look out for the EP dropping May 16th via Beatport.

In The Mix…Black Sun Empire

Dutch Neurofunk legends Black Sun Empire return with Episode 23 of their podcast series, and the boys have gathered a particularly tidy selection of neurofunk belters for the mix! New cuts from Chris.Su, Telekinesis, Memtrix and more all feature in the mix. As usual it’s a free download, so check it out!

In The Mix…Jade [Eatbrain]

Jade returns with the 6th episode of the sporadic Eatbrain podcast series and serves up a healthy portion of neurofunk for your listening pleasure! Brand new Eatbrain dubs from Telekinesis and Teddy Killerz feature alongside new beats and classic tracks from the likes of Noisia, Black Sun Empire, Dom & Roland, Neonlight and Bad Company. Dark and nasty all the way, just how we like it!

From The Shadows (Remixes) [Black Sun Empire]

The upcoming remixes of Black Sun Empire‘s From The Shadows material are beginning to trickle out, and so far they are sounding more than healthy!

Lifted Music’s latest wunderkind Memtrix serves up some seriously energetic neurofunk with his remix of All Is Lost. If there was any doubt as to who the pretender to Spor’s abdicated thrown as the king of this sub-style was, this guy is busy dispelling it.

Not to be outdone by the young upstarts, gritty tech pusher Prolix has come correct with a stereotypically filthy refix of the Foreign Beggars imbued Dawn of a Dark Day. Leading with a huge bass throb before the breakbeat smashdown of the drop kicks in, this one is serious business.

Watch out for these dropping sometime in March!

Classic Track: Black Sun Empire – Arrakis

For the first of our running feature on classic tracks, I’ve picked out one of the first D&B tunes I heard from one of the producers that got me into the music, Black Sun Empire. Taken from their first album Driving InsaneArrakis epitomises the super-crunchy, atmosphere-laden sounds of 2004 era neurofunk. All brooding pads and sci-fi-esque synths on the build up, and when it drops the dutch trio let loose with a furious break and heavy sub lines under a filtered, twisted reese bass. Epic!

Black Sun Empire – From The Shadows [BSE]

While Dutch drum & bass veterans Black Sun Empire have certainly been busy gigging and organising their Blackout nights (which have recently touched down in the UK, to great success) new music from the trio has been fairly thin on the ground since their last album Lights and Wires. Apparently the boys have been busy and just not telling anyone though, as the emergence of the sampler for their 5th album From The Shadows shows.

More of a tease than a true show of new material, the sampler nonetheless showcases some seriously stomping remixes of tracks from Lights by the likes of Jade, Neonlight, Mindspace and Telekinesis. If you like your drum & bass big, bad and thoroughly growling then look no further than this!

In The Mix… Mindscape

Mixtape banter this week comes courtesy of Hungarian Drum’n’bass producer Mindscape via fellow Hungarian Jade‘s Eatbrain label. Spanning 29 tracks in just under an hour, this is wall to wall neurofunk DnB at it’s finest, with brand new dubs from the likes of Black Sun Empire, Gridlok, Cause4Concern, Neonlight, S.P.Y, Prolix and The Upbeats. Tight rolling breakbeats and growling bass all the way. Check it out below!
