Stay At Home Festival returns for Part Two

Amongst the thousands of bedroom livestreams currently flooding Twitch, Facebook and all the other platforms, the recent Stay At Home festival raised the bar significantly with a massive lineup of tasty D&B. Part 1 raised a whopping £18K for the NHS to help battle the Covid-19 epidemic. Now Goat Shed & Onyx Recordings are back with Part 2 featuring the likes of Amoss, Kelvin 373, Paul T & Oberon and many more, raising money for Age UK. Premiere: K2T – The Sanctuary’s Kingdom

We’ve got a very special premiere from Detached Audio boss K2T today as he unveils the first Sampler EP from his forthcoming debut LP for the label! The Sanctuary’s Kingdom combines Karan’s love of old school tinged breakbeats with his talent for emotive melody and compositional depth, for a track that is mysterious and uplifting in equal measure. We can’t wait to hear the rest of the album…but in the meantime you can grab the Elder Spirit EP on Mar 29th.

All profits from the release will go to the charity Help Musicians UK which provides grants and support for musicians, including running the enormously important Music Minds Matter project to support musicians’ mental health. Great music for a great cause…get to know.

Apex – Echoes [Hospital]

https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/hos-static-shop/image/3656/large

The sad news last year of the passing of Rob Dickeson, aka Apex, was met with universal heartbreak across the D&B scene. An incredibly gifted musician responsible for a number of iconic tracks, first in collaboration with Jim Gash as Unknown Error and later under his solo Apex moniker, Rob left our world long before he should have.

To honour his memory, Hospital have now released the last known new music from Rob, with all proceeds going to Help Musicians UK’s “Music Minds Matter” campaign aimed at raising awareness surrounding mental health issues within the music industry.

The tracks on the single fittingly span almost the entire length of Rob’s discography – A side Echoes is a completely new, previously unheard track featuring characteristically sublime melody as piano, strings and synthetic chimes interact in a playful, serene dance set to a crispy liquid backbone of breaks and bass.

On the flip, vintage Unknown Error track The Yearning gets a Super VIP mix, embellished even further than the already lavish VIP released by Horizons Music in 2008; weighing in at over 9 minutes, and featuring an absolutely breathtaking pre-drop breakdown, this is emotional D&B at it’s best.

Sadly no Soundcloud / Youtube clips are available but you can hear a preview of Echoes either at the Hospital Store or at the beginning of the latest Dojo Podcast. Hit up the store to grab the single now on vinyl or digital; rest in peace Rob, you’ll be missed.

Love You Forever LP

As if the recently released Grenfell LP from Nurtured Beatz wasn’t enough, another corner of the D&B community has come together to support the survivors of the Grenfell disaster via another packed charity album. The Love You Forever LP  features a whopping 25 tracks of mostly dancefloor focused D&B from some of the biggest names in the game, including Whiney, Kenny Ken, Kasra & Enei, DJ Fresh, Genotype and many more. Hit up the iTunes store to grab a copy and help out this essential cause.

The Grenfell LP [Nurtured Beatz]

Watching the drum & bass community come together in the face of tragedy and adversity is one of the most heartwarming aspects of being involved in this scene. Whether it’s specific, personal responses like those to the deaths of scene legends like Marcus Intalex, or wider campaigns like Drum & Bass Against Racism, a huge number of figures in the scene are always pushing to make our world a better place, one beat at a time.

On that very tip, our pals at Nurtured Beatz couldn’t simply sit by and watch as survivors of the Grenfell tower disaster were left high and dry by their local authority, so the label bosses responded with what they do best; a charity LP featuring no less than 18 tracks by a cracking selection of underground producers. Label regulars like Kalm & Spindall, Genotype, Interline and Kolectiv bring some gully business to the table alongside other producers like Mitekiss, DBR UK and Mystic State, and there’s even space for hip-hop from Django Mancub and the legendary Chester P, plus an accoustic swansong from Blake Bastion.

We’d be recommending this album even if it weren’t for such a good cause, but given that it is also providing support for people who desperately need it this is a must buy. Hit up the Nurtured Beatz Bandcamp to grab a copy now.
