DNB Dojo Mix Series 73: B1tyze

Deeper beats for you all this weekend as B1tyze deliver the latest instalment of our exclusive mix series! Formed of US button pusher B1t Crunch3r and French studio duo Kantyze, B1tyze have been crafting some really unusual leftfield rhythms over the past year with releases for the likes of Onset Audio, Free Love Digi, Keep Deep & Future Follower Records.

Due to geographical separation we couldn’t get all three behind the Dojo decks but rest assured that Jason B1t Crunch3r has delivered a top notch mix representing the sound the trio are pushing right now. Moving through deep halftime, hybrid jungle and full roll tech and featuring material from GREAZUS, Mauoq, Quadrant & Iris and of course a host of their own beats, this one is a proper journey through the 170 sound. Sick!

As always you can check out the mix via Soundcloud below or head to Youtube or iTunes to stream. You can also grab a download from Google Drive.

Premiere: Kantyze – The Blastmaster

Quentin Hiatus’s FLD imprint continue their relentless schedule of forward-thinking future music with a fresh new album from French duo Kantyze. The Mutation LP features some serious riddims so naturally we jumped at the chance to share the premiere of one of them, and The Blastmaster is one frenetic riddim indeed. Rapid-fire breakbeats set to a lilting, swung bassline and punctuated by raved-up synth melodies and staccato vocal hits make for a relentlessly energetic track; sick vibes! Check it out and look for the full album dropping October 16th.

Kantyze – Fish Eye EP [M-Atome]

mat_web_016_300

French duo Kantyze bring us the latest release on M-Atome! Fish Eye kicks off the EP nicely with crisp beatwork, slightly old school chords and a nice squelchy bassline to give the tune plenty of texture. Dren takes things to a darker place with some nice haunting chime echoes and nice pallet of sounds being brought in and out of the mix to give a really spooky effect.

Over on the flip Factory Slum heads for stripped back roller territory, bringing things down to a level of sub, breaks and little else. Finally Marauder VIP rounds off the EP nicely with more sinister, echoing pads and growling bass set against the backdrop of a really characterful break, with weird and wonderful percussion skittering in and out of the main kick/snare line.

Check out the beats below and watch out for these ones dropping June 10th.

Get To Know…IM:Ltd

We’ve covered some of the excellent material from IM:Ltd here on DnB Dojo before, and given the two excellent releases they have lined up for March and April, now seemed like a great time to do a little retrospective on the label. Started up in 2009, the French label has been busy putting out a slew of excellent digital releases from a variety of up and coming acts, and has found time to craft a few limited 12″ releases too. The quality and style of the labels output has always leaned towards the deeper, moodier side of Drum & Bass, often eschewing the dancefloor in favour of creating atmospheres better suited to the 6am after party. Favourable comparisons can be drawn to the likes of Data’s output for Horizons, such as Mortem’s excellent Stratos 12″ released back in 2011.

But don’t mistake the imprint for a one trick pony. Not everything you’ll find on show here is merely for the chin-stroking heads; while avoiding out-and-out tearers, the label has definitely put out it’s fair share of insistent steppers such as their releases from Future Signal and Paiton.

All of which brings us up to the here and now, and the impending release of the Aftermath LP. Showcasing a mixture of leftfield Drum & Bass and more downtempo, Autonomic-esque vibes, the 10 track release packs some serious atmosphere. Highlights come from Es.tereo and Marilyn with the sublime Winteria, Calculon who delivers a brilliant clap-and-shuffle floater with Hold Back, and Physical Illusions’ We Feeling What We Doing which features a seriously smooth, laid back flow from MC KryptoMedic.

As though that isn’t enough, IM:Ltd just delivered us some grittier numbers on the aptly titled Hunted EP which dropped earlier this week. The EP heads for decidedly heavier territory than some of the labels previous releases, with some seriously dark bass on show, particularly on Disept’s Course and Kuantum’s rather excellent Lost & Found.

So get over to your favourite digital outlet and check out the tidy back catalogue!

Junction 12 EP [IM:Ltd]

French label IM:Ltd have been going from strength to strength recently and their latest EP Junction 12 is no exception. Due at the end of the month, it showcases the sort of depth and versatility we’ve come to expect from the label, from dark steppers like Kantyze’s Tough Breaker and Quartz’ Armour King to slightly more leftfield vibes like Es.tereo’s autonomic-esque title track.

Check out the tracks below and watch out for this one dropping January 28th!
