Lenzman is one of the toughest artists I’ve examined for Classic Track due to the sheer consistency of his discography! I distilled his numbers down to a handful of tracks that I felt were his best, and then I employed one of the more natural methods I could think of as a music lover to determine the one to post here: choose the track I listen to most often. While it took some time for me to come to my conclusion, Close To Me pulled off a decisive victory in the end.
Released on Future Retro (a sublabel of BCee’s Spearhead Records) in 2007, Close To Me brings all of the spirit and sophistication to be appreciated in a classic liquid Drum & Bass track. Tight, energetic break-work and warm bass establish a foundation of rhythmic precision and sonic purity. Subtle tones dance along in the background of downbeat rolled chords from an electric piano layered with other harmonious sounds. Lastly, the enticing yet seemingly distant sounding vocal provides just the right touch of deepness. All elements are synthesised into an entrancing liquid tune that’s jazzy, soulful, and irresistible.

Hex is back with the usual monthly selection featuring new music from Geety, DLR, Villem, Nemy, Mister Shifter, HNGVR & UnoTurbo and many more!
The beauty of Drum & Bass as a genre has always been the variety of styles and influences that can fit within its scope – united by tempo and perhaps drum patterns but otherwise hugely varied. Munich duo Children of Our Stars certainly exemplify that ethos, bringing strong influences from orchestral music and singer-songwriter territory and blending them with the familiar structures and 170 rhythms we know and love.
The pair have just dropped their debut LP and the resulting eleven track effort shows off their talent for soulful, evocative melodies and enthralling musical journeys. The use of live vocals and instrumentation really lends a natural edge to their sound, providing a welcome antidote to the sometimes overly digital sound of Drum & Bass in 2021.
As for the vibes, the tracks are uplifting, beautiful and engaging from start to finish, with particular highlights coming on Home, Take Us Back and First Snow. Check out the clips below and hit up Bandcamp or Spotify to buy/stream Flanell Sessions right now, and if you can’t get enough soulful vocal D&B then keep an eye out for an EP from Children of Our Stars on DNBB Records very soon.
Another month rolls on past which means only one thing…Hex returns with the usual selection of beats and bass. New music inside from Dedman, Break, Myselor, Artsea, Jaise, Soul Intent, Pacific and many more!
Twenty years deep in the music industry and channelling a deep knowledge of all things D&B, pyxis’ forays into production over the last two years have established her as one of the scene’s best up and coming liquid producers. With releases for Goldfat, Soul Deep, Eloisa and Liquid Drops plus her excellent work on the Headsbass / Beats in Mind project we jumped at the chance to get a guest mix!
As you’d expect this one is melodic vibes through and through, the perfect soundtrack to the current crop of sunny weather here in the UK. Smooth and rolling, just how we like it! As always you can check out the mix via Soundcloud below or head to Youtube or iTunes to stream. You can also grab a download from Google Drive.
Beats In Mind return with volume 6 of their superb Headsbass series of compilations and we’re pleased to present the premiere of Millstreet’s Help Myself! Delicate liquid melodies and rolling drum breaks…yes please. The first single from the LP drops Apr 23rd, with more following in May, and as always all proceeds will go towards mental health charities.
Hex returns to the Dojo decks with an hour of brand new beats! Fresh tracks inside from NC-17 & Dauntless, Don Piper, Flava D, Villem & Alpha Rhythm and many more, plus dubs from Shudder and The Faraday.
