Classic Track: Nomis & Optiv – Piston

The recent passing of the venerable Edward Holmes, better known as Optiv, has been a time to celebrate his body of work. A stalwart in the pantheon of Drum & Bass luminaries, Optiv’s impact will live on forever. One such work by Nomis and Optiv sticks out indelibly for me in a lineup of classics from the Cause 4 Concern camp, released on Optiv’s Red Light Records.

Piston is an underrated 2002 track that can stand with the best bass bangers in the genre. I love to crank the dial on this tune to get the full effect of its behemoth bass…yet, I always end up having to bring it down a notch or two just because of its sheer force. Intensity is further mounted by the frantic cacophony of howls and shrieks that ensnare the atmosphere. And what’s a song in the C4C domain without slick drum sequencing? This track has it in spades. Sonorous grooves beat away in this brute force classic. Long live Optiv!

Dojo Damager: C4C – Time Stopper (Impak Remix)

Rising neurofunk star Impak brings us today’s Dojo Damager as he delivers a storming new remix of Cause4Concern’s Time Stopper. The new remix makes great use of the 2002 original‘s hypnotic lead but amps the tension right up with futuristic synths on the intro and an absolutely hammering array of sub hits and percussion on the drop. Relentless business! Check out the clip below and hit up Beatport to grab this one right now.

Duo Infernale – Closer [Infiltrator]

Berlin producers Duo Infernale return to the scene with a great new single for German label Infiltrator Records. Closer provides a chunky teched up stepper with plenty of soul and some lush vocals from Panic Girl; a nice dancefloor warmer for that middle part of the night before the heavy hitters amp things up.

Over on the flip Cause4Concern’s Make Me Wonder gets a great new remix. The original saw release on the now defunct Shadybrain imprint and proved an unusually mellow number compared to C4C’s usually banging output, and this new remix does the original’s vibe justice while flipping things around with a rolling break and techy bass underpins. Nice!

Check out the clips below and look for this on vinyl and digital from June 15th.

Task Horizon – Evolved EP [Cause4Concern]

Cause4Concern’s releases through their own label have been packing a serious punch of late, and their latest from Task Horizon is no exception. The EP sees Task Horizon giving the remix treatment to two Cause4Concern tunes and two of their own tunes.

Control Freak and Kill The Pain see Task Horizon going in *hard* with bone shaking snares and tearing reese action a plenty. Things are dialed back slightly for Droidz which has a tasty off kilter-ness to it, and the EP is rounded off nicely to the glitched up head banger that is Letting Go. Huge tunes

Look out for the release from your favourite digital outlet, out now!

Cause4Concern – Jinx / Lowlife [C4C]

Cause4Concern have been bashing out top notch techstep bangers on the Drum & Bass scene for well over a decade but this latest release on their own label proves they haven’t even remotely lost their touch.

A side Jinx brings the fire in classic techstep style with a signature C4C warping bassline layered over a stomping drum beat. This is dancefloor slaying material and no mistake. Flipside Lowlife doesn’t disappoint either with hard hitting kicks and skittering snares giving the track tons of movement. Look out for this one on the 31st of December!
